I almost feel like ...Thank you for your kind words. I almost feel like purring. I felt pretty certain that a re-examination of "These Three" and "Dodsworth" would leave smackdowners jubilantly high on Marcia Mae Jones and Mary Astor. I think you'll agree we all owe Brian of StinkyLulu a hearty "Thank you" for creating the smackdown. I know I'm glad I stumbled onto it. He's provided a fun forum for ethusiastically interested parties to celebrate work that's well worth revisiting. In fact,he seems to have mobilized a little squad of detectives now happily investigating the supporting actress scene year by year. Result: some neat surprises and entertaining re-assessments of old favorites (and not-so-favorites). Looking forward to many a future smackdown.CanadianKenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12240756292929779255noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33387578.post-1159771399962642342006-10-02T02:43:00.000-04:002006-10-02T02:43:00.000-04:00Thank you- I agree with every detail of your eloqu...Thank you- I agree with every detail of your eloquent description of Jones' masterful grip on the role, especially the fact Marcia's so convincingly unnerved throughout the film, it's hard to tell where reality ends and acting begins (for example, check out the reaction shot of McCrea, Hopkins, and Oberon after Jones' phenomenal "I said it!! I said it!!! breakdown- I don't think Wyler had to work much to obtain those "Oh my God- she may have just ruined our lives, but is that poor kid going to be okay?" expressions from his stars).

I'm convinced some voters had Jones in mind when choosing Granville for a nomination- the two were equally praised in several of the rave reviews which greeted the opening of These Three in 1936.

Your writeups on 1936's and 1962's "Overlooked" choices also are real gems, and are at least as entertaining as the actual smackdown- looking forward to reading your take on 1982's "forgotten."Vertigo's Psychohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17701774152300870403noreply@blogger.com
